Chanting is integral to Sivananda yoga. It is a very effective technique to connect the various aspects of self to the greater self. It brings harmony to the personal energy field, by soothing and calming. By extension the surrounding ambience is grounded. Often a sense of connection with universal energy is experienced.

I open and close each Yoga session with a short chant in Sanskrit. You are encouraged to join in, though it is not compulsory! Listening alone brings benefits.

As many students have expressed the wish to learn these chants I have provided them here. You can listen direct or download them.

    The atmosphere is quiet & calm, a mood partly generated by a short opening chant in Sanskrit.
    There is a longer period of relaxation at the end & I leave with a straight back, head held high & a composure with which to face the day.
